Thank you guys for your comments on the patio progress last week!  I wanted to share with you all how I made the rope mirror over the fireplace.  I absolute love how much money I saved on this thing.  I think I spent only about $40.  Not shabby considering RH sells them for $649!!!
What you’ll need:

Ikea Grundtal mirror (IKEA – no longer avail) // spray paint // rope (local hardware store) // dummy door knob
The first thing I did was cover the glass with paper and tape and spray paint the mirror’s frame.
Once it was dry, I knotted either end of my rope (mine was 7′ long) and laid it along the sides of the mirror (back side up).
I then tied the rope to the cross piece with string to hold in place.  I’m sure any type of heavy duty string or small wire would work for this.  This will not hold the weight of the mirror, it’s just to keep the rope attached to the mirror.  I had some jute string on hand so I used that.

The piece that looks like it’s holding the mirror up is actually a dummy door knob I had on hand.  I have no clue why we had one of these, but I was so excited to find it in the garage.  It’s perfect for this project!

When you hang your mirror, you want to make sure that the weight of the mirror is being supported by the hook on the back of the mirror and not the rope.  Here’s the set up I used for hanging mine.  Since I was hanging it from a brick wall I used a mortar drill bit and screws.
I was originally planning on gluing the door knob to the screw, but by some force of magic it ended up sliding onto the screw and staying in place.  I don’t know how it worked but I rolled with it!
Yesterday the black and white striped fabric came in for the outdoor drapes!  Eeeeeee!!!!  I’M SO EXCITED TO GET THESE MADE.  I’ve wanted striped drapes outside for as long as I can remember.  Even when we didn’t have outdoor spaces.
I just hope it’s not one of those things like when you buy your kids a toy that was something you always wanted as a kid but never got.  The kid is all, “Um ok.  I don’t see what the big deal is.” and your all, “Why don’t you love this???  How can you not love this?!?!  This was like the most amazing thing ever way back when!!!”  And then you realize you’re way out of touch on what’s cool and hip these days.
I’m sticking with black and white is always classic and a classic never dies.  Yep.  Stickin with that.
