Command strips do not come off easily if left on for long time. Takes the paint off and part of wall.
I didn't have that problem with the command strips not coming off easily from the walls or from the cabinets. It may have something to do with the quality of paint already on the walls, not sure, but I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for you.
I'm really curious to know how this has held up for the past few years. I love Command strips, but I've never tried cutting them down like that, and I've never tried them in a situation where I'd be pulling on them all the time. I'm moving soon to a place with no cabinet knobs in the kitchen and want to try a non-drilling (alas, the plight of renters everywhere–no holes) method of installing them. I'm especially curious about whether this might work on a drawer, which could require more force to open than a door.
We were in our rental about a year so that is as long as I have experience with them. But, during that time they held up perfectly. It was on a cabinet door that was opened about once a day. I'm not sure how well it would hold up on a drawer since, as you mentioned, it would take a lot more pulling on a drawer to get it to open than a door would. Might work on a smooth rolling drawer that isn't weighted down too much inside. It's always worth a try!
