addressing the ceiling fan light

January 10, 2013

In my home resolutions post I mentioned doing something about the ceiling fan light in our master bedroom.

Here’s what it currently looks like.

It’s not hideous, but it’s not pretty.  And the positioning of the lights have blinded me on several occasions while sitting in bed.

I found this GORGEOUS fan at Lowes the other day.

It’s not horribly priced, but if I can save a few bucks and make ours work then awesome.  This next image has me thinking I can.

I just picked up a $15 drum shade from TJ Maxx and am going to see how it looks.

What are your thoughts?  Do you even like the look of a drum shade on a fan?

I am going to be tackling the same problem around m house soon! Every room has a ceiling fan, and although I love them in the summer months and have them running all the time, I really dislike the look. And it's not really in my budget to replace them all. I was also going to try adding a drum shade. I've seen a few images on Pinterest and its definately doable. Thrifty Decor Chic had a great tutorial on how to install one. Let me know how it turns out!

can't wait to see it! I could NEVER live without a ceiling fan so anything to make it less ugly is a plus in my book!

I've seen that new fan too! Our house came with fans like the one in your bedroom, and we just took the blades off and spray painted them white. BIG improvement! But I can't wait to see how you tackle the shade deal!

What a good idea! I do not like the light on ours in our master bedroom or the living room! I'll be keeping an eye out for some nice drum shades.

Oh how I hope your idea works. I also have fans everywhere, but the ones in my bedroom and guest rooms annoy me the most, but covering up my hideous lights is definitely a solution .

Wow, such a simple change that makes such a huge impact! I love it and now I want to do this to my ugly fan in the MB. Good luck with your move! As a native Texan, I have to say that you are doing the right thing (ha!) but I know how hard it is to leave family and friends! Again–Good luck!

I don’t really like the look of drum shade in a ceiling fan. But it is your house, and what matters is what you want, so go give it a try. That one from Lowes' looks really gorgeous though. That will be worth spending on if you say it is not horribly priced. Staci @ BrooklynFan.com
