big girl room reveal!

I’m not sure who’s more excited about her big girl room being done, me or Izzy 😀
Here’s a little reminder of what we started with.
And, here’s the final room!
The tufted headboard was a DIY (I’m planning on putting together a tutorial in the future). I think it’s my favorite item in her room. Probably because I’m a little jealous we don’t have one in our room 😉
I knew I wanted a fun, bright nightstand in here. This was my first attempt at DIY chalkpaint, and I’m so glad I gave it a shot.
The bedskirt was another DIY. I purchased a plain white bedskirt from Target and added the ruffles. Couldn’t have been easier, and I think it makes the bed loads more interesting.
Her great-grandmother’s dresser got an update with the help of AS chalk paint and silver Rub and Buff on the hardware. And I forgot to snap a picture of it, but I lined the drawers in a bold pink and orange floral wrapping paper – so fun!
A must have in her room was a reading nook and a place to display her books. Izzy LOVES being able to “shop” for a book at bedtime 😀
Her great-grandmother’s wingback that I slipcovered a while back, finally has a home in here. It makes me so happy to know that she’s surrounded by her GiGi’s things :)
Here’s a list of sources in case anyone is interested in where items came from
1. Curtain fabric – Heather Baily Pop Garden Turquoise 2. DIY tufted headboard (click here for tutorial) 3. Sweet Dreams pillow cases – Urban Outfitters 4. Pink coverlet – local antique store 5. Swing arm sconce – Home Depot 6. Fabric for bolster – Spoonflower 7. Baby giraffe prints – The Animal Print Shop 8. Table (DIY chalk paint) – TJ Maxx 9. White duvet – Bed Bath and Beyond 10. Bedskirt – Target (ruffles added by me)
1. Dog Art – DIY 2. Paint – Martha Stewart Nimbus Cloud 3. Zinc Letter – DIY using Sugar & Charm’s tutorial 4. Dresser paint – Annie Sloan’s Pure White 5. Tissue Paper Pom-poms – Martha Stewart 6. Book Ledges – DIY 7. Pom-Pom Pillow – DIY using Living with Punk’s tutorial and fabric from JoAnns 8. Sock Monkey – DIY using Craftbits tutorial and women’s knee socks from Target 9. DIY slipcover
Total cost of getting her into a big girl room… $350!!!
Here’s to using what you’ve already got, and DIYing the heck out of everything else 😀
I’ll be linking up to these fab parties!

NewestI am dying, DYING, over how absolutely lovely this room is!!! The soft color on the walls with the pops of turquoise and pink – SO peaceful, girly and fresh. And best of all the fact that you have furniture in here that was your grandmother's – that makes the space special (and the dresser and chair rock, btw!) Tissue paper pom poms, book shelves, curtains, oh the details this room! I seriously want this room for myself! The perfect room for a beautiful little Izzy.
Most adorable room ever! Love that you used pieces that have meaning to you. The headboard is amazing, the curtains are perfect and the little reading nook is awesome. What sweet picture of Izzy too.
This is beautiful. I am so in love with that headboard!!! Great job!

Adorable, it's such a mature room for an adorable little girl!
I wish that was MY room!! You did an amazing job. I love how it isn't too childish, it's a great mix of girly colors and classy warpped into one room. So not what you expect in a little girls room but that's what makes it so perfect.
I also LOVE your source list….what a neat idea for your readers.
I am your newest follower…now I'm off to check out the rest of your blog.
that looks awesome! i love how it has pinks, oranges, aquas and a little grey! i also like the wall lamp. i'm a huge urban outfitters fan, but never think of it for kids' rooms… i would have never noticed the pillow cases were from there, but they look great!
Shelley,
So glad I found you thru Andrea at Oak Ridge Revival!
Your daughters room is fabulous! I need that headboard – can't wait for the tutorial! My girls are 12 and had a definite opinion on their room colors (much to my horror)! Trying to be a good mom, I let them choose and toned it down with lots of white furniture and rugs. Adore that sock monkey (we have a collection)!

I love, love, LOVE Izzy's big girl room! What makes it so great are all the DIY projects and the pieces that have special meaning – you've created a beautiful and personal room that I'm sure Izzy will love for many years. The turquoise accents throughout the room are great (I especially like the curtains), but it would be easy to update the colour scheme in the future just by changing out a few pieces for a new colour. It's the perfect room for Izzy to grow up with 🙂
I love it! I am in the middle of revamping my daughter's room from a nursery to a big girl's room. I especially love the turquoise table. I would love to have you share this at my link party!
http://thewinthropchronicles.blogspot.com/2012/03/share-it-link-party-1.html
Very pretty room. I love the subtle colors and the reading nook.
Amazing room. I can't wait to see the tutorial for the headboard.
Wow. The contrast between the white and light with the pattern on the curtains is stunning.
I came. I drooled. I pinned.

Adorable! Love how all the colors and everything came together. Fantastic job!
You have put together such a beautiful space for your little girl – I love it all! The bed is decked out so prettily with all the gorgeous bedlinen you've sourced, the headboard looks amazing and I love the turquoise bedside table and other smaller table too. Great job!
It's absolutely beautiful! What a lucky (and cute!) little girl!

This room is adorable!!!!! It's hard to pick my favourite details: the slipcovered chair, the sock monkey, the artwork, it's all fabulous!
😉
love it! so light and airy. i just re-did a nursery into a big girl room and I agree I think i enjoyed it more than she did.
Oh this room is just precious! I know you are so proud of all your hard work and all the money you saved doing it yourself! You gave me inspiration to try and cover a chair I have using a dropcloth. I love all the things you did. Awesome room! lin lbprichatbellsouth.net
I forgot to mention that I love your dog art. I wish I could draw because I would love to do one of those of my dog and cat. But I do not have once ounce of artistic talent in my body! lin
This room is so adorable! You must have saved a lot of money doing it yourself! great job! Here are 5 "cool teen" bedroom inspirations…perhaps your next project? Hope you like it!

Fabulous room for your little girl! Love it and will be featuring it today…
Where did you get the little doll on the nightstand? I love it!
Great job! I saw flashes of my baby's nursery in there (due in 2 weeks) – the poufs and giraffe! 🙂
I have been wanting to do a dog silhouette art for my sons room. How did you do yours? I couldn't find your tutorial on here.

I love this room and the color is gorgeous, I'm looking for a color for my bathroom this might be it. Can I share with my readers giving you credit?
Thanks
I love this room, you did a beautiful job. Do you have a link to the DIY bookshelves?
All I can say is "wow". Hope I could have a room like that.
Your daughter's room is truly beautiful! And i have to admit I love your sock monkey… this is high praise coming from someone who has been freaked out by sock monkeys since she was a small girl. don't know why, just always have been… but i love your sock monkey! maybe its the polka dots!!
All in all it is a truly delightful room that will definitely be able to grow with her! A truly inspiring room!
It just goes to show that imagination and a little (or a lot) of industry can totally transform a space! Lucky girl. 🙂 You must be so pleased with how it turned out. Just gorgeous!
Great transformation while only spending little.
Shelley, this room turned out fantastic! I am in love with how you made it serene and cheery at the same time. Nimbus Cloud was the perfect color choice! I'd love to feature this on my paint color blog. You wouldn't have to do a thing, just let me know if you're interested!
LOVE this room! She is one lucky girl! We budgeted around $300 for our "big girl transformation", and we already have all of the furniture, so I'm hoping to DIY most of the way and come out under budget!
