child proof door locks | with socks

December 11, 2014

The day has finally come where Sam has figured out how to open the doors in our house.  No longer am I able to keep him out of the bathrooms, office, pantry, etc.  He has free reign and he’s running wild!!!
While in line grabbing coffee yesterday, I struck up a conversation with a mom of 5 boys.  FIVE!!!  Sam’s “Boy Mom” radar must have gone nuts because as soon as she walked up he ran over to her all smiles with arms outstretched.  Um hello, Sam?  Stranger, danger?!!  Anywho, I mentioned the door thing and she recommended using socks instead of store bought door knob covers.  Seeing as how she did this with 5 boys, I’m going to take her advice 😉
All you need is a sock and a rubber band.

Cut about 4 inches of the toe off the sock.  Slip the toe over your door knob and wrap the rubber band tight enough around the base of the knob that they can’t pull it off.

Sorry buddy, but it just isn’t gonna happen for ya.
His grip isn’t strong enough to keep the sock from sliding on the knob.  When you need to open the door you just grip harder.
Do you guys have any tips or tricks you use for childproofing your homes?  Share them in the comments, I’d love to hear them!

From far away it looks like a black or oil rubbed bronze knob too, instead of the ugly white plastic ball. I'm stealing this in about a year. 🙂

Most people put a high priority on feeling safe and secure in their own homes,
so taking measures to increase safety and protect against intruders when you are
at home and burglars when you are away is important and home security door locks
are a major consideration. Both the kind of lock and the way it is mounted matter.
