I’m here, I’m here!! I’ve completely fallen off the blog wagon for a couple of weeks. Just had way too much going on. Weekend sports, Izzy’s birthday party, my mom came in for a visit, and tackling a few belated projects. I get my love of DIY from my mom, so she is always game for projects when she visits.
Changes are a brewing in Izzy’s room. The kid clutter is real. My mom helped her with a small purge (basically empty gum wrappers and scrap paper), but there is still so much left over that she has an attachment too. I got sick and tired of seeing knick knacks, shopkins, and emoji toys covering every square inch of the top of her dresser. This clean dresser top lasted all of one day. We needed shelving and more storage options.
I took down the book ledges. While I love having books on display like this, it was no longer practical. As she got older her books changed from large picture books to smaller chapter books. Ledges aren’t ideal for that.
And decided to make it myself with the help of my mom 🙂 Not only did I save a lot of money, but I was able to make the shelves a little taller for storing those taller picture books in baskets below.
I gave the whole thing a few coats of white paint. I swear by this paint sprayer. I purchased it when I was painting our office built-ins (I’ve got to blog about those!) and also used it to spray Sam’s Jenny Lind bed. It’s absolutely amazing. It’s only $41 and does what all of those fancy sprayers do. It’s incredibly easy to clean, and look at what the canister is. Your everyday mason jar! Have to stop during a project? Put a mason jar lid on the top and you can save the paint. Don’t want to mess around with refilling the jar during a large project? Have another filled mason jar on hand and quickly switch it out. Bam. Seriously can’t say enough wonderful things about it.
The bookcase is finished and is now up in her room. I’m still tweeking (it tried autocorrecting that to twerking, ha!) the styling but wanted to give you a little peek at it.
There are more changes to be made in here before I take more photos. Bedding is getting a switch-a-roo, and all of the polka dot decals are coming down. I’ll keep ya posted!
Shelly, I love the way you styled the shelves! I always like seeing that pop of pink against the white. We are definitely going to be checking the paint sprayer out, it sounds amazing and super easy!
The bookcase came out great Shelley! Tutorial? I have the Critter too….I like it for small projects and for keeping paint stored in jars after spraying!
Izzy loves Gramma. Gramma loves Izzy. They both light up when they’re together. Gramma also likes teaching Izzy new things, like how to smell her own shoes and feet. This makes me smile Although weird :D
I wanted to tell you guys about that coffee table I made for our back patio today. I didn’t document the process of building it (honestly, I threw the thing together not knowing if it was going to work or not) so this isn’t a tutorial. But, you could easily make your own once…
I’m sure you’ve all seen and been swooning over this pillow from Target {target} Me too I just didn’t have a spot in my house where the yellow would work. That, and it’s no longer available. So, I attempted to make my own, and I really like how it turned out. If you want to make one…
I’ve known for a while that I wanted to get Izzy a play kitchen for Christmas. I fell in love with the ones at PB Kids. But, at $800 I just wasn’t feeling it. Ha! In my search for a way to make one I came across Ana White’s website and fell in love with one of her plans…
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend with their families! Today I wanted to share with you guys a super quick and easy tip on how I added a temporary skirt to the built in table in our laundry room. Anything I do to this place has to be done without…
Thank you guys for your comments on my guest bedroom makeover! Without a doubt, the biggest change in there came when I slipcovered the dark wood sleigh bed. Total game changer. This is a perfect way to help break up a matching bedroom set or to freshen up a bed you’re not loving the style…
