Took me long enough, but I finally took photos of the dining room now that I finished the molding and painting!  It’s so much brighter in here, and I can’t get over how much larger the space feels.  Keep in mind I’ve still got some work to do – it never ends.  But, here we are!
I went with the additional thin piece of molding below the chair rail – I’m so digging how it turned out.
Oh, and you can find out more about my “new” striped rug here.  Me loves 🙂
Like I said, I’ve still got a lot to do in here before I feel like it’s finally a finished room.  When I’m trying to figure out what to do with a room I often get strange looks from my husband.  I don’t really blame him.  I flop fabric around, toss random things up on the wall, stand back and squint a lot.  Now don’t you laugh at me, I know I’m not the only one!
So here’s what I’m thinking.
1.  Now that the ceiling has been painted, it really could use some crown molding to finish it off.  Looks a little naked up there to me.
2.  The random piece of black fabric taped to the wall?  I was thinking a piece of art over over there (something abstract with a black background) would help balance out the black from the drapes on that side of the room.
3.  I pulled out the old cream slipcovers to help me visualize what slipcovered head chairs would look like.  I’m thinking white floor length slipcovers for the head chairs only.
4.  When I snapped this photo I thought I would cover the side chair seats in the yellow print fabric.  I used the same fabric for a pillow on the couch in the living room.  But now that I see the photo, I’m not sure I like it that much.  What do you guys think?  Any suggestions?
For funsies here’s a little reminder of where this room has come from.

It’s so much brighter now right?!  Let me know if you guys would like a tutorial on the picture frame molding and I’ll put one together for you!  BTW, is it molding or moulding?  It’s driving me bonkers!!!

UPDATE: Some of you have asked about paint colors.  The walls are Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter and the molding is Sherwin Williams Alabaster.

The room looks amazing! I LOVE the moulding and your light fixture is fab! (Think it's spelled: moulding, but that could be one of those Canadian/US things~~we like to put random u's in the middle of words!)

Love the color change. I'm not loving the yellow fabric for the chairs though. Love everything else. What happened to the addition of pink? Not feeling it? Also I go back and forth with moulding vs molding. I think both are correct.

That room is coming together so nicely! I too am not going for the yellow on the chairs. My eye pulls to the green moss ball on your sideboard–have you considered green print? When I see where the big black 'art' is–I would recommend to keep it light don't have black art, but definitely something big in size. Maybe a series of black framed frames with prints inside? like a 3 x 3 grid (or bigger) in order to balance out the room but not overpower it.

I came over to comment on what a great job you did on the rug and got to see your great dining room! I am with Alison…something green sounds good to me!!! Since you already have a large print on the curtains…and the zebra chairs…what about some green velvet on the seats…could add some texture. Just an opinion and everybody has one 🙂 I do love that BM color on the walls!

Beautiful. What a great job. Totally worth all your hard work! I do think the yellow is a little busy with the zebra and the slipcovers, but besides that it's all coming together fantastically! Um.. not sure if that's a word 🙂

I have one sample wall in my bathroom painted the Revere Pewter and it's reading really pink. Maybe it's my light bulbs. Or the green of the other walls. I had to come over and see what yours looked like again. :o)

I do have a tutorial, you can find it here: http://westermanfam.blogspot.com/2012/09/picture-frame-moulding-tutorial.html

I can't remember the height of the chair rail (we are no longer living at that house), but it was a standard height.

      Hope this helps some!
