We’ve used a cleaning service for the past few years. Once every two months or so they come in and deep clean the entire house in just a couple of hours. It was amazing. We hired cleaning out because I dreaded cleaning our master shower. Not just the ughhh… cleaning sucks way, but in a this is making me sick way. Being stuck in our shower breathing in strong chemicals while scrubbing tile always brought on an asthma attack and headache for me. Not good. Over the Summer we wanted to cut down on some of our non-essential spending. I decided it was time to figure out a better, healthier way to clean on my own, and stopped using the cleaning service. I’ll share sources at the end of the post as well as a FREE gift!

Young Living Thieves Cleaner

Natural cleaners have come a long way. I found one that is quite different from the first all-natural ones I tried years ago that leave a sticky residue behind. I’ve been using it all Summer long and am now completely hooked. This one I found is a concentrated plant based cleaner that allows me to make a number of my own DIY plant based cleaners. There are actually 29 different cleaners you can make with just one bottle! Everything is super clean, the smell is amazing, I’m excited about how they look, and most importantly I no longer get sick after cleaning the bathroom. I can also start teaching the kids how to clean their own bathrooms now that we’re no longer using harsh chemicals. Win, win!!

All Purpose Thieves Cleaner

Thieves is an essential oil blend that is known for its cleansing and purifying properties. All of the DIY plant based cleaner recipes I’m sharing are made with the Thieves Household Concentrate Cleaner. The first recipe, the All Purpose Thieves Cleaner, is your ride or die cleaner. I use it on our kitchen counters multiple times a day, bathroom surfaces, door knobs, appliances, walls, you name it. You can even spray it on the carpet of your car to get rid of car smells, and on the dash for general cleaning. It’s effective, doesn’t leave a residue, and smells heavenly. I used to associate a clean smell with bleach, now I think of Thieves.

Thieves cleaner DIY

Thieves Cleaner Recipe:

  • Fill 16 oz spray bottle almost to the top with water
  • Add 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate

Did you know? One 14.4 oz bottle of the Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate will make a little over THIRTY 16 oz bottles of the All Purpose Cleaner! That’s a lot of cleaning power.

Soft Scrub

I’m oddly obsessed with this soft scrub. When I mix it up I have to remind myself I cannot eat it. So strange, but it smells so good. Like lemon cookie dough. But don’t let that fool you. It gets your sinks and tubs CLEAN. I had let our shower tile get nasty before trying this out the first time. We’re talking every color of mildew, soap scum, yuck. I wanted to see if it would actually get it clean. Worked like a champ!!

Thieves plant based DIY soft scrub recipe

Soft Scrub Recipe:

  • 1/4 cup Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 10 drops Lemon or Citrus Fresh essential oil

Mix together and store in airtight jar. Use on sinks, tubs, showers.

Glass Cleaner

I’ve not been too thrilled with Windex for years, but had just accepted the streaking. But, since I now had what I needed on hand to mix up the DIY glass cleaner, I gave it a go. No streaks, smells great, and no worries when it blows back in your face (constant occurrence when I’m cleaning windows on the patio).

Glass Cleaner Recipe

  • Fill 16 oz spray bottle almost to the top with water
  • Add 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 5 drops Citrus Fresh or Lemon essential oil

Use on glass surfaces, mirrors, and windows.

Toilet Fizzies

These DIY toilet fizzies are like a bath bomb for your toilet. Drop 1-2 in your toilet bowl and let them sit for about 15 minutes while they fizz. When cleaning bathrooms I drop the fizzies in first and let them work while I’m cleaning the sinks and showers. Come back with your toilet scrubber and clean the inside of the bowl as usual. For the rest of the toilet I use the Thieves Cleaner spray I shared at the beginning of the post. Fresh and clean!

Thieves DIY toilet fizzies cleaners

Toilet Fizzies Recipe

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 3 teaspoons water
  • 1 teaspoon Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate
  • 40 drops Lemon essential oil or Thieves or Citrus Fresh essential oil blends
  • 3 teaspoons V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex (I used this Almond oil)
  • Ice cube tray or candy mold

Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix. In a separate bowl, combine water, essential oil, and V-6 or Almond oil. Pour liquids in with the dry and mix until combined. Fill ice cube tray or candy mold three fourths full. Let sit to dry at room temperature overnight. Once dry, store tablets in air-tight container.

How to Order the Thieves Concentrate Cleaner

You can purchased the Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate at YoungLiving.com. At checkout enter my referral code: 30154917.

It comes in a 14.4 oz or 64 oz bottle. I would just start with the 14.4 oz (that’s what I use). All of the recipes I shared above have been made a few times this Summer, and I still have almost half a bottle left.

Here’s where you have a few options with ordering. You can do one of three things:

1) Make a one time purchase at full price. Done and done.

2) Get 24% off your order (as well as any future purchases) by subscribing to at least one item. For an example, you can subscribe to a bottle of the Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate. You choose how often the subscription item or items ship (every 1, 2, or 3 months). And, you also have the ability to go in and edit your subscription shipment frequency and items, and can cancel at any time for free.

3) Make a purchase of 100 PV and get 24% off your order (as well as any future purchases). PV stands for Point Value, and each product has a specific PV attached to it. For example, the Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate 14.4 oz bottle has a PV of 23.5. You would then need to add additional items to your cart to get you to a total of 100 PV. Some of my favorites to add would be the Lemon essential oil, Lavender essential oil, Tee Tree essential oil, Geranium essential oil, and the Thieves Dish Soap.

A Free Gift for You

I really wasn’t expecting to love Thieves as much as I have! Love the idea of diffusing the Thieves essential oil. The amber spray bottles are linked in the post under Sources or you can click on the bottle image below that.
