When I posted the design board for Izzy’s new room, I mentioned I had already done the polka dot wall decals. I had an itch to get it done, and I didn’t want to wait for an order to come in, so I DIY’d me some polka dot wall decals!
I was originally going to use black contact paper, but I couldn’t find it stocked near me. While I was in the craft store I was determined to come up with an alternative. I came across a repositionable chalkboard wall decal at Michaels. Done and done!!!
It’s pretty self explanatory. You just punch out the shape you want your decal to be (in my case a 3/4″ circle punch), peel of the backing, and stick!
I did have a couple of my punches come out raggedy (is that even a word??) from the adhesive backing getting gummed up in the hole punch. It was an easy fix – just use some scissors to round it off.
Izzy was having a BLAST sticking them up on her wall.
It totally worked out that it had a repositionable backing. If you’re a little OCD about having your kids help you with stuff like this (like, I’m so bad I start twitching when Izzy helps decorate the Christmas tree) you can easily move the dots around later when they’re not looking 😉 Of course, just like the regular wall decals, there is no damage to your walls when you decide you’re over the whole decal thing.
Think off all the shape possibilities! Triangles, crosses, hearts, or whatever paper punch shape you want.
Best part? It only cost $7 for the entire wall.
BOOM!

What a great alternative. I love it. Yes, I have been known to re-do my kids' work too!
That Izzy is so so so cute!! The polka dots are super fun and I love the repositionability of them!!!!
Love this!
so fun! and she is the cutest!!!!
I painted 4" pastel polka dots in our playroom…they look great now but I'm cursing the day I decide to change it. I needed this DIY last year.
So fun. You should'a hit me up. I still have 900 square feet of black contact paper from Carter's DIY Angry Bird decals. 🙂
I'm with you on the twitching. It hurts to watch them do stuff like that.
Gorgeous!! And… I'm glad I'm not the only one a little OCD about kid-assisted decorating… 😉
