There’s that period after you’ve taken down all of the Christmas decorations where the house feels really stark and empty. A few days go by, you’ve adjusted to seeing it in its normal state again, and that stark feeling goes away. When our Christmas tree came down I couldn’t get past how empty that corner of our living room felt, even months later. I just knew it needed a tall plant in that space. The problem was that anything I placed there quickly drooped or died a slow death due to the covered patio blocking the sun. The only solution was to go faux. I’ll be honest, I was expecting to not like it, but the faux olive tree I placed in the corner has ended up being just perfect!

What I like about this faux olive tree is its height, how full it is while still being airy, and the realistic look to the branches. This tree comes in two sizes, mine is the Large.

Found Pot + Planting

Let me tell you about the found pot I “planted” it in. This pot was one I had made over once before for use outside, but I thought it might be the perfect size for this tree. You can see how the pot used to look in the photo below where I was testing size.

I wanted the pot to have a found/aged look to it. To do this I painted the white top to match the bottom and randomly dabbed on some black paint. Before the black paint dried I took a damp paper towel and wiped off some of the black paint.

To give the tree a little more height I filled the bottom of the pot with styrofoam before placing it inside. Then, I added a little more styrofoam to the sides to keep the tree nice and secure. To make the tree look more realistic I placed some cardboard over the top of the pot (for a flat surface) and layered preserved moss on top.

I’m so happy with my olive tree! It fills that lonely corner perfectly and I don’t have to worry about a real tree dying on me.

I love a good faux plant. No watering, no shedding and no guilt feelings about the lack of a green thumb. 😄 This tree is perfect. Not he predictable focus or fig. Love it.💞
