Soooooo, turns out Izzy isn’t much of a traveler. Mike had an appointment in Tulsa last week, and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take her down so she could meet some friends and family. We have just moved her from two naps a day to one about a week earlier. We planned it out so that we would hit the road at the same time her nap was to begin (thinking how brilliant are we, she’ll totally sleep the entire trip). Didn’t happen. Screaming. After dinner with friends we get back to the hotel and set up her pack and play so she can get her much needed sleep. This should be easy since she didn’t take her nap and it’s now two hours past her bedtime. Didn’t happen. Screaming.
Before I go into the next part let me give you a little background. Izzy has slept in her crib since the day she came home. We never had her sleep in our bed because a) I have a severe fear of suffocating her during my sleep and/or dropping her off the bed (so bad that for several months after she was born I would wake up freaking out and madly search the bed and covers for her eventhough she wasn’t in the bed) and b) I’m selfish and want my side of the bed and part of Mikes all to myself 🙂 So, seeing as how she wasn’t going to sleep in the pack and play and for the sake of all the people staying on our floor, the one above, and below, we decided to take one for the team and put her in bed with us. And, I had always wondered if I was missing out on something magical. Missing out on awesome snuggle time, little smooches that would wake me up (not too early of course). Um, yeah… Didn’t happen. How is it that in a king size bed I ended up clinging to the edge of the bed for dear life the entire night?! Not that having room to sleep really would have made much of a difference seeing as how my smothering fears were in full force. Are there too many pillows on the bed?! No, the covers can’t go beyond our waists! What are the chances she rolls into my armpit and suffocates?! She slept like a dream though. A little snoring here and there. Butt up in the air. And, of course, sprawling out all over the place. At least I had something entertaining to watch while I was awake!

The next morning while Mike was at his appointment, Izzy and I found a charming pond and garden in town with a bunch of geese and ducks. She had a blast walking around pointing at the ducks. So much fun to watch her walk around with them! There’s a lot in common with the way a toddler and a duck woddle around 🙂 I thought I was doing a pretty good job of steering her around the duck poop. Turns out there’s a lot more poop in the grass than you can see. Found that out when I scooped her up quickly to escape a charging goose and found green stains all over my white skirt. Nice! We go pick up Mike from his appointment and are hitting the road to go home. We’re thinking we should have a better chance of getting a nap out of her on the way home since she’s still lacking sleep from the day before and should be tuckered out from running around with the ducks. Didn’t happen. Screaming. She chills out for a while when I bust out the container of Gold Fish crackers. “Lord, please don’t let me run out of Gold Fish!” All is going well and I decide to get some milk out of the cooler to refill her sippy cup. My white skirt ends up wearing most of what was intended for the sippy cup. Again, nice!

After making a high speed detour to pick up Ruff from the vet before they close (a ticket would probably have cost less than another day of boarding) we’re home. I’ve never been so happy to pull into our driveway. Yeah, we will NOT being going on a road trip to Montana with Izzy like we previously planned. I will also NOT be wearing white the next time I’m in the car with her for longer than 30 minutes 🙂
