Today I’m bringing you the next bathroom I worked on over the Summer. If you missed Sam’s, check that out here. My daughter is fifteen and, as you can imagine a teenage girl being, she is very opinionated with how she wants her room and bathroom to look. She had been asking for an update for a couple of years, but I kept putting it off. But since I was going to have to pull out the baseboard and shiplap in her brother’s bathroom due to water issues I knew it made sense to tackle them both. As I was putting this post together it hit me that is has been nine years since I touched this space. Time truly flies. We’re both so happy with how her bathroom turned out and how closely it resembles the original design plan. Here’s Izzy’s bathroom makeover! I’ve included a full source list at the end.

Beadboard

The thick horizontal DIY shiplap I added nine years back was feeling dated to me. I replaced it with a classic beadboard. This came in 4×8 sheets that were installed with Liquid Nails. My nail gun pooped out on me during this project so instead of tacking it into studs in a couple of locations I had to use screws to temporarily hold it while the glue cured. The screws were then backed out, filled, sanded and painted. I also used this opportunity to replace the short, sad baseboards with a taller traditional style. Not that you can see them well in these photos, but man oh man nice baseboards make a big difference.

Beadboard, trim and door are painted PPG Paints Gray Palomino in semi-gloss. This color is the color used in her attached bedroom and throughout the majority of our home.

While the above photo is still fresh, I want to mention the polished brass light switch plate. This was a last minute swap I made and I’m so glad I did. Originally I thought it would be best to leave the switch and outlet plates white to blend in with the walls. Izzy really wanted to go brass and she was so right. Don’t miss the opportunity to make every room, no matter how small, feel special. These do that.

Wallpaper

Hello, Gorgeous! When I made the decision to makeover her bathroom I knew we had to do a fun wallpaper in here. But, it had to be cohesive with her bedroom’s wallpaper. This blue floral wallpaper was the first I found and we both immediately agreed it was the one. This bathroom just wouldn’t be the same without it.

Shower Curtain

With the pattern and color coming from the wallpaper, I went simple on the shower curtain. I always recommend you hang your shower curtain higher, but it can be hard to find one that’s extra long. In the past I have made mine from sheets, window drapes, or by sewing two shower curtains together for more length. This time I ordered a pleated window drape from my favorite custom drape company. I was able to get the exact length I wanted and the pleats along the top look so high end!

This is the linen Doris drape in the color Natural, unlined, with a Pinch Pleat header. I do have a regular clear long shower curtain liner along the inside. Use code CRAZYWONDERFUL to get 15% off your order.

Vanity, Counter + Faucet

Just as in her brother’s bathroom, I chose to keep her vanity cabinets since they were still in good condition, just in need of new paint. And since the builder installed the vanity before the tile floors, I would have had to redo the tile which would have been a larger expense. To freshen up her vanity cabinets I roughly sanded them and painted on two coats of Sherwin-Williams Anew Gray. She loved the look of painted wood knobs so I replaced her old peeling black knobs with those. I like the simple clean look it gave the vanity. And I think they’re classically nostalgic paired with the beadboard.

The existing cultured marble vanity top had become dingy and chipped over the past ten years. It was replaced with quartz, Viatera Cirrus, and added a tall backsplash with a small ledge.

What a huge difference this widespread faucet makes! The kids now have the nicest faucets in the house. I wanted to mix metals in here so I went with a polished nickel. It makes me want to replace the other center set faucets in the house with this one.

Light + Mirror

This is the same gorgeous antique brass light that I used in Sam’s bathroom makeover, but in a three light version. Probably my favorite vanity style light ever. The finish is too good and I love the round milk glass shades. The mirror is a steal for the size and feels like a much higher end mirror. It comes in ton of sizes and multiple finishes.

Art

This art stack couldn’t be more Izzy. Salty and sweet. My girl has always loved bunnies and she fell for this rabbit sketch. I have it in a vintage metal frame that once belonged to my grandma. To keep her space from being too sweet I added the altered Don’t Rush Me art. My girl cannot get herself ready in a timely manner, but what teenage girl can!

Vintage Rug

A small vintage rug is always a good decision in a bathroom. They add so much charm to a space. And since they’re usually 100% wool they are a great option when it comes to water drips. The color could not be more perfect in here! If you’re looking for vintage rugs I’ve got a selection I’ve picked out in my Revival Rug Storefront. You guys automatically get 15% off any of them.

Gorgeous bathroom! Love the combination of wallpaper and breadboard, the artwork, paint colour, heck, everything in this room! Question: why did you paint the other bathroom with satin finish and this one in semi- gloss? Ty.

    1. Hi Arlene! Thanks for pointing that out to me, that was a typo! Sam’s bathroom shiplap was a semi-gloss, not a satin finish.
