Paint
The paint color is Behr’s Dark Secret. Walls and ceiling are in a matte finish. Builtins, crown, baseboards, and doors are in a semi-gloss. You can get all the details on how to successfully go from a light color to a dark color in this post.
Bubble Light Chandelier
A bubble light chandelier had been on my dream list for a while, but I didn’t know where I could make it work until I started planning out the office makeover. They can get really expensive so I was thrilled when I found this light with 37 globes under $400. It has three light bulbs that are hidden under all of the glass globes. The statement it makes against the black background is amazing. It’s the number one thing my husband gets compliments on when doing a video conference.
Rug
Honestly the softest rug you will ever feel underfoot! I originally chose it for the office, but you may remember me first sharing it in Sam’s bedroom. It looked incredible in his room, but I knew it was meant to be in the office. I went with this stripe rug because it is the perfect blend of light and dark tying the dark walls with the light carpeted floor. This is the 8’3″x11’3″ and it’s currently $369. A great price for a rug that size and quality.
Storage Baskets
While a home office can be pretty, not all office items are. My husband has a lot of smaller items he needs out for work that can clutter up a space fast. I added these large woven baskets to each of the bottom bookcase shelves so he can easily corral those items out of sight when not in use. We also have one for paper/mail that needs to be shredded.
Blinds
These are the same bamboo blinds I have throughout our home. I have them in the Antigua Natural color with a blackout liner. This style of blind just seems to work with everything so there was no need for me to change them up. I also like how they repeat the tone and texture of the woven baskets in the builtins.

I love the dark paint on the walls and ceiling and am interested to try it myself, but I don’t know if the drama will come across well in my north-facing room. Do you mind telling us which direction the light from you windows is coming from?
Hi Abbey! The windows in our office face the West, getting afternoon sun. But, I think you can absolutely lean into a moody color for a North facing room since it will already be a less lit space. Just make sure you have overhead light or some lamps to help bring in enough light when you need it.
