my living room curtains

January 26, 2016

I get a lot of questions from people asking where I purchased my living room and kitchen curtains.  I can’t help but chuckle because of the answer.

They’re plain white, queen size, flat sheets from Target.  These, to be exact.  Yep.  That’s it!  You see why I’m laughing now?!  I originally intended this to be a temporary fix, but it ended up growing on me and I decided to keep it.  Added bonus: If they get dirty I can just toss them in to wash with a little bleach.  Bada bing, bada boom.

Maybe the reason they look a little fancier is due to how I have them clipped.  I folded over the top hem of the sheet and created a couple of pleats every few inches with my fingers.  I held the pleats in place with a clip ring from the backside.  Pretty darn simple.

I don’t pull these curtains shut (we use the blinds for privacy) so if you do, you might want to run a needle and thread through the pleat to hold it in place and even stitch it onto the ring for added security.

The first time I moved out of my parent’s house I used black sheets as curtains in the place I was renting.  14 years later and not much has changed 😀

It's like you've come full circle with using sheets as curtains 😉 This is so clever! No sew pinch pleats?! Pinch me.

Man I adore those wood beams you have.

This is such a simple and easy thing to do. I especially like the clip idea as well as leaving the curtains not so stretched out and left only as an accent. My living room is kinda dark and drab, basically man-cavish. I'll through in some white sheets and let the light in. Nice work.

Thank you so much, Kellie! These rods were from Target, and I had to combine one and a half sets to get the extra long length (3 poles total). I have since changed it out for the longer rods at IKEA. Hope this helps!
