new house progress

I’ve not posted much on the progress of our new house because up until now there hasn’t been much progress.  We were originally suppose to close Nov. 15th.  Didn’t happen.  December 12th.  Ha!  They still haven’t finished bricking the exterior.  Then they said end of the year, and now we’re looking at January 29th.  You guys, if they don’t finish the house for closing in January, I am going to come unglued.  UNGLUUUUUED.
I’ve always heard people say that building is a nightmare.  We thought it was going to be smooth sailing since we had all of our decisions finalized back in June/July.  There were zero holdups on our end.  Well apparently, they can’t get it together on their end.  So freaking, stinking frustrating.  Izzy has even offered up to, “go over and growl at them”, ha!
With things finally coming along on the inside, I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Hopefully, in a month and a half we will no longer be digging through moving boxes to find the random items we thought we didn’t need to unpack.  Hopefully, in a month and a half we will be on our way to organized bliss.  Hopefully.
Here’s the house from a few days ago.  They actually now have the trim in and painted, but I haven’t taken more pictures.
Taken from living room toward kitchen.  The kids’ playroom will be above.

From the eat-in.
From the kitchen out to the living room.  The dining room is to the left.

Eat-in to the right and living to the left.  And yes, Sam is still wearing his PJ’s.  Tell me I’m not the only one who keeps their baby in PJ’s when they drop the older ones off at school?  He goes right down for his nap as soon as we get home so I just don’t see the need!

The back patio just off the eat-in, behind the living room.  I am the most excited about this area!
From the living room toward the entry.  They were installing all of the interior doors that day.
From the dining room towards the stairs.  Oh how badly I wanted hardwood stairs!  They were practically asking for my first born, so it didn’t happen.  Maybe it will be one of those things we do down the road.

Dining towards the kitchen.
From further into the entry towards the living room.
I’ll snap some more pics once they get a little further along.  Right now I’m eager to see them get the rest of the exterior done.  I saw some folks out this morning so fingers crossed they’ll get some more brick/stone up today!

Oh my, Shelley. Now that is a house! Looks like there's plenty of room for me and my family to move in too. I LOVE your kitchen and that pack patio is going to be so awesome. I can see why you are anxious to get in there and I can't wait for you to give it your personal touch!

Are you friggin' kidding me? I need to cuss right now. Holy shit, woman, that place is effing spectacular. Like, even in my wildest dreams, we'll never live in a house that nice. Holy crap. I'm coming over to pet everything.

And….I took Baby to the grocery store in her jammies yesterday. When we got home, she took a nap and woke up right when it was time to pick the kids up from school. So I threw her coat and shoes on and out the door we went. She woke up with the same ones on this morning. Mother Of The Year right here, baby.

I can't get over how fancy that place is. Like, amazingly fancy.

Shelley, that house is amazing!!! I'm so loving your outdoor patio too!!! We are eventually going to add on a covered patio this next year, but we can't figure out the best place for it, so we keep holding off. I wish a fireplace could happen, but we'll see how that goes. CONGRATS on your house!! I cannot wait to see it done!!! I'm sorry it's been so painful. Maybe we need to meet up sometime for a margarita to let you cry in. 🙂

So frustrating! But from what I can see, it is going to be well worth the wait. It is looking beautiful!!

Shelley, it's beautiful. I know you're frustrated. Believe me, I've been there. Everything always takes twice, no, three times as long as you think it will for some unknown reason. It's going to be amazing. It already is! Oh, and I keep my kids in pajamas all day long sometimes. I don't feel one bit guilty about it either. If I could I'd stay in pj's all day long;0

Gorgeous, girl!! Love those tall ceilings!! I sooo understand how you feel on building. I am still amazed at how poorly the whole building/contract industry works at organization and time management! You would think they would figure it out at some point! Our friend (and builder) built down the street from us, and we were shocked to see like 7 different crews working on his house in those last 2 or 3 days.. Just like ours! No one is immune!
Fingers crossed you're in by January!

Beautiful! We're building too and getting slowed down for many of the same reasons. We're not in too much of a rush though and hope to be moving in by April.

Your kitchen/breakfast area looks almost identical to ours though. Just curious on the dimensions that you're working with in there…length of the wall with your range & fridge, island length, etc. And, how'd you decide on a flat island vs. raised with the sink in there. I'm torn.

    Thanks so much!

Sorry to hear you're dealing with the same slow stuff 🙁 On our kitchen, I have no clue what the measurements are. I can tell you why we went with the flat island though – more useable counter space. The house we're renting has the raised island with the sink hidden, and while I initially thought I'd love it (thought it would be more visually appealing from the living room) I can't stand it! I just don't feel like I have enough space as there isn't a large enough area next to the sink and the raised portion ends up being thinner. I'm glad I experienced it in our rental to know it's not something I would want to live with long term. Hope that helps some!
