I have a tendency to use clothing and home furnishings completely up before moving on.  Fair to say I get my money’s worth out of everything.  Our striped entry rug had been well loved and finally started unraveling along the edges.  I loved that rug.  The stripes made me so happy and I really hated letting it go.  Pretty sure I spent $35 on it at Homegoods when we first moved to Texas six years ago.  Here’s my favorite girl on my favorite rug.

Rug Tryouts

Now, I very easily could have replaced it with an identical rug like this onebut I decided to use it as an opportunity to try something different.  The first rug I tried out was this indoor/outdoor rug.  It still had stripes and I was excited about the low maintenance care of the rug.  Unfortunately it didn’t flow well with the rest of the house and felt a little too beachy for what I was after.  I can’t find a photo of it to save my life, but trust me, it didn’t work.  Returned it and ate the shipping costs.

The second one I tried was this jute rug with a slight pattern.  Here’s a photo I texted to my mom.

It was a good neutral rug at a great price, but it wasn’t super interesting.  I almost kept it, but when our dog ran by and made a sharp turn into the office he pulled the loose weave wide open and I knew it wouldn’t last us very long.  Second rug was returned and more shipping costs eaten.

What I really wanted was a pretty vintage rug.  I spent more time searching online and came up empty-handed because I didn’t want to be in the same situation and have to return another rug.  Then it hit me.  We have a bunch of rugs in our storage room that my husband purchased overseas before we were married.  Most are colors that don’t work with our current decor so I’ve pretty much forgotten about them, but I remembered there being one that was lighter.  I ran upstairs, pulled it out, and BOOM!!  Turns out I had the perfect rug tucked away in another room the entire time.  Lesson learned.  ALWAYS shop the house first!

New (to this room) Rug

Pretty darn thrilled with rediscovering this rug.  It definitely changes the look of the entry.  I really love the interest it gives the entry, it has an incredibly tight weave that our dog can’t destroy, it’s insanely soft, and best of all it’s FREE!!  Here’s a different angle so you can see more of the entry.  It’s so dark in here.  Tried my best to add some light to this photo but our front door area is like a cave.  Hoping some day we can swap our door out for one with glass and get some natural light in there.

How many of you shop your home before hitting the internet for decor replacements?  I normally try to, but just wasn’t thinking at all on this one.  All of that money wasted on shipping!  I could have used that to cover a new mirror for above the entry table.  If only I had a storage room full of mirrors!
