We had some cooler temperatures come through Houston a couple of weeks ago (we call it False Fall) that got me in the mood to decorate our front porch for Fall. I was dreaming of using some plants that aren’t your usual go-to and love how it came out. And since Halloween is just a few weeks away I added that version in as well so you can see how it transitions. I also have a discount code for my fellow Houstonians to use at my favorite local nursery where I picked up all my plants and pumpkins. Ok, here’s our Fall + Halloween porch!
Fall
Plants I Used

Nursery Discount Code
My favorite nursery in the entire Houston area is Cornelius. They have the best selection of plants/flowers year round and every single pumpkin/gourd you could ever want. That’s where I bought all the plants and pumpkins you see here. Their staff is super nice, and they actually like helping you (which I can’t say for other nurseries in our area).
Use code CRAZYWONDERFUL10 to get $10 off your $50 purchase at Cornelius now through 10/20/24.
This Coleus was the first plant I spotted that made it into my nursery cart. The purple/burgundy leaves with the bright green edges set the color tones for everything else I picked.
I grabbed some of my favorite hued pumpkins/gourds in various shades of green, white, and muted orange/green because nothing says Fall like a pretty pumpkin.
Pots + Baskets
I moved out my all white grouping of pots and added in some black pots and my new woven basket planters for a warmer feel. For years I had been looking for outdoor basket planters. Every version I found was incredibly expensive. But, this was my year!! These basket planters are the perfect color and the price was the best part.
Halloween
The same plantings easily transition over to Halloween with a few more fun additions. I added in a couple more pumpkins in bright colors for more interest. You can’t go wrong with orange pumpkins for Halloween.
DIY Ghosts
I made these ghosts after being inspired by Pottery Barn’s pricier versions. I’ll share a video tutorial for those in the next blog post (check those out here). They’re simple to make and are so fun when they light up at night. Stay tuned!
I brought out the DIY bat wreath I made a couple of years ago, and added some more bats to the plantings. But these are different from any bat you’ve seen because these flutter!!
DIY Fluttering Bats
These are so quick to make, you’ll want to make several! I first saw this idea shared by Hannah @blushingembers on Instagram. These are fun outside in pots with plants as well as indoors in a vase.
