Since putting in a pool two years ago and giving our back patio a makeover we have spent so much time out there. With Spring’s arrival and Summer temperatures already nipping at its heels, I’m getting the patio ready for its time in the sun again. All we needed for a quick refresh was adding our new patio rug from Revival. You would never guess that it’s made from recycled materials and has the most attractive price. Come check it out! I’ve also got a discount code for you!!

How beautiful is this rug?! It makes this outdoor space feel like a true extension of our home. Since putting it down we have all been making our way to the patio every evening to enjoy the space more.

Why I Needed an Outdoor Rug

A couple of years ago I thought we didn’t need a rug on the patio. My thought was that it needed a lighter colored rug to brighten up all of the red brick. But, a lighter rug was going to look dirty fast from muddy dog paws and I just didn’t want to maintain it all the time. After spending a couple of Summers without one and burning our feet on the insanely hot brick I changed my tune. Brick gets HOT under the Texas sun. So hot you can’t even stand on it. It was time to find a rug.

Rug Details

This is the Pétanque from Revival. It’s a flatweave indoor/outdoor rug that is handmade from recycled plastic bottles (a 5×8 rug is made up of approximately 460-500 plastic bottles). The recycled bottles are transformed into polyethylene terephthalate, a sustainable fiber. But don’t let that part fool you because this rug looks and feels like a wool rug! Definitely not like the plastic, rough rugs that come to mind when you think of outdoor rugs. It’s highly durable, easy to clean, and is water and mildew-resistant. You could use this indoors and no one would think otherwise.

The color is a mixture of several different grays and has a subtle plaid pattern throughout. The gray perfectly ties in with the rock we have between our pavers and helps breaks up all of the red/brown brick. I’m definitely thrilled with it being a darker rug so that when muddy dog paws come through they won’t stick out like a sore thumb.

I have the 9×12 which fills that patio up perfectly. Often times I see rugs that are too small for outdoor spaces. Treat an outdoor rug just as you would an indoor rug by making sure it’s large enough so that all of the front legs of the furniture sit on the rug.
