If you missed the last post where I shared our very first house. I’m sharing some photos from our houses over the years. A look back at what they looked like before I knew what my style was. Long before this blog and Pinterest were a thing 😉
Our 2nd House – Bixby, OK 2006
Mike had just got out of the military and took a civilian job near his home town of Owasso, OK (outside of Tulsa). I LOVED Tulsa. It was such a change coming from the small town of Sumter, SC and it was about 2.5 hours from my family. This home was our first single family house. The last was a duplex with a small yard. We were beyond excited about this place!
We finally bought some new furniture when we got to here. Wooohoooo!!! Out was Mike’s bachelor couch, his parent’s old green chair, and the coffee table that he bought off his friend in exchange for beer money. GONE. I did have to negotiated for this new couch though. Which, is still the same couch we use to this day. Mike agreed to be on board with a new couch if we used one of his rugs. Deal! This large red rug of his was the only one that fit the room, so red became the decorating color.
The zebra chair was my first reupholstery project. I made the drapes with help from my mom, and thought I was nailing it with the red ribbon down the sides 🙂
Another gallery wall using DIY floating shelves.
Our new kitchen was mind boggling after our last kitchen. I still think this one had the most cabinet space out of all of our kitchens. I was so thrilled to have a breakfast nook and finally use my parent’s old oak table. This is the same one that we currently use, just now refinished with liming wax.
Bedding stayed the same from the last house with exception of the lumbar pillow, and I made some window shades out of sheets to look like ones I loved from a PB catalog.
I know I have more photos somewhere on the computer, but I can’t for the life of me find them. We lived here for about 2 years before moving back to my hometown of Wichita, KS. The move was well timed as I was pregnant with Izzy and looking forward being near my parents. At the same time, this was a hard one. I loved our home and loved Tulsa.
Oh my gosh! We lived in Edmond, OK while my hubs was going to law school and rented a brand new house that looked exactly like yours! I mean exactly- same floor plan and everything! Brings back memories. Thanks for sharing! Jill / http://www.partyfettiblog.com
Shelley isn't it so interesting to see how your style evolved? Red was my color too – I pulled a little of it through all my rooms. Now I don't think there is one red thing in my whole house even as Christmastime! What happy memories this space has for you!
I don’t think I love you anymore. And, to be honest, I never loved you. That’s the chandelier that came with the house. It has never been replaced because I go back and forth about what I want to replace it with. It’s been almost 2 years, and I’m still not sure. So, a temporary…
I guess the fancy term is powder room, but we just call it the hall bathroom. I’ve not purposely been holding this bathroom from you guys, it’s just hard to photograph due to it’s tiny size. I posted a photo of it on my Instagram over the holidays and afterwards I figured I might as…
Izzy’s room was included in my house resolutions I posted about here. It was the first thing on the list to get attended to as it needed to happen asap. Here’s a little sneak peak of what I’ve been working on! Good news is she’s pleased as punch to be in a “big girl” room. Even better news,…
Last week I finally made up my mind about what hardware to go with in the new kitchen. I’ve flipped back one too many fingernails pulling open drawers without pulls or knobs in the house we’re in right now. I decided I needed to have hardware ready to install the day we close on the house. Here’s…
I’ve been putting together my list of things I hope to get accomplished around the house this year. As of today (because if you’re anything like me you’ll end up adding to the list not because you have time to do it all but because you easily get distracted by pretty things and have a…
…the first thing you’re going to need are the balls to get started! This is my grandmother’s piano I have so many fond memories of sitting at this piano with my grandmother as a child. To me it was magical. When the piano came to me I had no plans to change it, just leave…

How wild! Yep, I absolutely loved this floor plan and was so bummed when we couldn't find something even slightly similar when we moved.

Yes, it's so weird to look back at things! I'm laughing about your Christmas comment because that's totally what I did 😀
Wait, I just realized I still have red, lol! Sam's room has a red rug 😀
