pantry makeover | before

April 1, 2014

I planned on posting something entirely different today, but after having an “I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!” moment with my completely unorganized pantry, I changed my mind.

This is where we are right now.  No judging 😉

This is looking in to the right.  The pantry is an odd shape – deeper on the right than it is on the left, and I couldn’t get a picture of the left.

Still looking in to the right, but down low.

I’ll break down some of the junk for ya.

The saving grace of this pantry is the shelving system from The Container Store we installed to the door as soon as we moved in.  Unfortunately, we never organized the spices, they were just randomly tossed in.  That’s an easy fix though.

I don’t even know what I’m going to do in here to make my life easier yet, but something has to be done.  I didn’t even want to put my groceries away when I got home from the store because I knew they were just going to get tossed in just wherever there was space.

I think labeled bins are going to make sense to corral the little like items.  I haven’t checked any out yet, but I’ll let you know soon!

Do you guys have any pantry organization tricks that are working for you?  I’ll take any tips you have!

I am totally jealous of your pantry (I don't have one). That said, since I have limited space to stick pantry items, the two things I find helpful are (1) defining how much "stuff" we actually have space for – e.g. only 1 jar of ready-made sauce at a time and (2) containers to group small stuff together – e.g. our downstairs medicine station lives in a plastic fridge organizer from wally's. And I channel my inner retail clerk: neat orderly rows of like-stuff. Have fun purging!

Unfortunately, my apartment doesn't have a pantry, so I won't be of much help. I do love the amount of space you have to store things and I am really liking that shelving system for your spices. I do think you're off to a great start so I'm curious to see what you come up with.

I totally want to organize that. Badly. Does that make me weird?
