The new sofa finally arrived!!!  I’ve been so eager to share it with you guys.  Our last sofa was a super trooper, lasting us 12 plus years.  I loved that the slipcover was washable, and how well the frame and cushions held up over time.  When it was time for a new sofa, I wanted to go with Pottery Barn again since we had such a great experience with our last one.  This time, we went with the Pottery Barn York Slope Arm Deep Seat Slipcovered Sofa in Premium Performance Basketweave Pebble.  What a mouthful!  This one is the 95″ Grand Sofa with the bench seat.  I’ve wanted a bench seat for so long and am thrilled with it.  The sofa is actually 1″ narrower than our previous one, but has more seating space since the arms aren’t as wide.  All of us are really digging the deeper seat, and we can do some serious kiddo snuggling on this thing.  Ok, enough talk, here she is!

Fabric

As I mentioned earlier, we went with the Premium Performance Basketweave in Pebble.  Pottery Barn has a massive selection of fabric choices, but when it comes to which ones will work best for those who want to toss their slipcovers in the washing machine, your choices get narrowed down quickly.  Most of the fabrics I loved were dry clean only.  That just doesn’t work for our family with two kids and a dog.  The Premium Performance Basketweave is 100% solution dyed acrylic that can be machine washed on cold.  Yes!!!  It does, however, have to be air dried.  Boo.  But, I’ll gladly take that over the dry clean only options.

Pillows and Construction

I want to show you what it looks like without decorative pillows in case you’re contemplating this sofa for yourself.  This is the Slope Arm, it comes in a few other arm styles.  The Deep Seat version comes with three lumbar pillows.  I’m still up in the air as to what do with them.  I’ve tried it with one in the middle and the other two parallel to the arms, and then how I’m showing it to you guys here with just one in the middle and my decorative pillows.  I’m sure I’ll play with it for a while before deciding what I like best.  The pillows/cushions are down-blend-wrapped and feel super heavy duty.  I also like that there isn’t any piping on this slipcover (as opposed to our previous sofa) giving it a cleaner look.  Our last sofa worked beautifully for us for 12+ years but when it did start to show wear, it was all along the piping.  I think this is going to help it stay looking nice and crisp after several washings.

Deep Seat vs. Regular

I’m usually always sharing the sofa with both kids.  More often than not, my youngest is trying to lay long ways right beside me.  We went with the Deep Seat York, which is 6.5″ deeper than the regular York and 8″ deeper than the last couch.  LOVE IT.  We did have to move all the furniture out quite a bit, but I’ve gotten use to it.  The only problem is that I feel like our media stand and black side table look teeny tiny now.

That’s how it always is though, right?!  Who else manages to open a can of worms anytime you bring something new into the house? 😀

    1. Thank you, Cassie!!! I’m over the moon excited about it! Hope this one lasts us as long as the other one did!

  1. Shelley I always love your taste in everything home and this is no exception. Love the shape of the arms, the fabric that is washable (amazing) and the long seat cushion! I especially love that Sam can lay next to you to cuddle, I so miss doing that with my kids when they were little! My daughter still does that when we watch TV but we don’t fit quite as well anymore 🙂 It’s gorgeous and I hope you get a dozen years out of this one too!

    1. It makes me so sad to think our snuggling days are numbered 😭 I always trying to soak it up as much as possible! And, thank you so much, Lisa!!

I love your blog. I just bought my first home for my son and I. It is a smaller home, and I was feeling down about being able to decorate it and having to get rid of some of my favorite pieces because I am downsizing. When I came across your blog, I got instant inspiration. WE have similar tastes and I love that you bargain shop. When I saw the links and stores you shopped at, I said this is the blog I have been waiting for. As a teacher, single mom, and fashionista on a budget, I thank you so much. Keep it coming girl!

    1. Lisa, I cannot tell you how happy it made me to read your comment! My goal here is to guide people to the conclusion that you don’t have to spend a lot to make a home beautiful and feel like you. I also think it’s far more fun to hunt for a steal and think outside the box on how to create a look I love for less. Congratulations on your new home!!!! I hope you and your son make so many wonderful memories there together! Enjoy the process of making it your own, and remember to not stress about the process (Rome wasn’t built in a day). And… now I sound like my mother 😀

  3. Looks beautiful! It leaves a lot of room to decorate around it.
