There is no quicker room refresh than adding or changing out a rug. I’m currently thinking back to when I didn’t use them. Our home at the time was mostly carpeted and I thought rugs couldn’t be used on carpet. Then we moved to a home with hard floors and I bought my first living room rug. It felt amazing. Not the rug itself, it was a rough jute, but the feeling of seeing it completely change the room. It was a gateway rug. Soon I was adding them to every room, even the carpeted ones. It has been years since I’ve been on this rug appreciation journey and I still get excited about a beautiful one. There are some rugs around our house that have a special place in my heart and I wanted to share those with you today. Vintage, new natural/sustainable fibers, and washable rugs. There’s something for everyone!
All of the rugs I’m sharing with you are currently 20% off for the month of April and ship for free. It’s the perfect time to grab your new favorite rug and freshen up your space. Here’s how I use them in our home.
My Vintage Rugs
My very first vintage rug was a tiny one around 2’x3′. The next a larger runner, and the next a full sized rug. There’s a saying that every room needs something vintage. When I started adding vintage rugs to our home it instantly gave the room a soul. You just cannot beat the imperfect beauty. And, there is something so special in knowing there is only one like it. Since they are vintage there is just only one available. You won’t be able to find an exact match to vintage ones I have in my home, but the rug source I shop through, Revival, has thousands and some are very similar in style.
Don’t let the age and uniqueness fool you into thinking they are delicate and reserved for spaces that don’t get much use. The vintage I have in our home are all wool, a naturally stain resistant and moisture wicking fiber, and are the hardest working rugs you’ll find. They’re the only ones that haven’t been damaged by our dog’s nails when he gets the zoomies, and clean like a spill never happened. These rugs have already proven themselves with a long life before entering my home, and will be the rugs I have for years and years to come.
Living Room

I fell for a rug that wasn’t large enough on it’s own to fill the floor space in our living room. Layering a smaller vintage rug over a larger jute rug is a great solution!
Dining Room

The vintage rug I have down in our dining room was the first full sized rug I got. I remember wondering why I hadn’t made this change sooner. The pattern and soft gray/blue is so eye-catching in this piece.
Kitchen

Kitchens can read cold easily. They are filled with appliances and hard reflective surfaces. A rug will always soften and warm a kitchen up. All of the kitchens I kept referring back to as my dream kitchens had vintage runners. I decided to go for it in our kitchen even though I was worried about how it would hold up to drips and spills. Not long after a jar of marinara sauce fell out of the fridge and broke spilling all over the rug. I was panicked thinking for sure it was ruined. To my surprise, warm water and mild dish soap removed everything. EVERYTHING. Wool is an incredible fiber and your best friend in the kitchen.
Entry

That rug in our entry is my favorite rug ever. I gasped when I opened the box the day it arrived. The same rules apply here as they do to our kitchen rug. Wool makes for an incredible rug in high traffic areas. And another thing to keep in mind is that vintage rugs come in some pretty unusual sizes. If you’ve got an odd sized space, you’ll be able to find one that works. That’s not always the case with mass produced rugs that come in a few predetermined sizes.
Small Spaces

Tiny vintage rugs are some of my favorites because there are a ton of places you can put them and you can’t be the price. Remember me telling you wool is naturally moisture resistant? That makes them perfect for bathrooms, entry doors, and laundry rooms. The one I have by the back door in our kitchen dining nook gets the most use out of any rug in our home. Our dog is in and out that door ALL THE TIME. And he’s either got muddy paws or wet paws. That rug has been there for years and still looks perfect. No other rug I’ve had there before can hold a candle to it. They’re magic.
Brand New Natural/Sustainable & Washable Fiber Rugs
Living Room

I love this rug so much. This is the rug I currently have down in our living room. It is unlike any other rug I have seen around. It’s hand knotted from undyed wool on a cotton foundation. There is a subtle geometric pattern created by using variations in the wool color. The weave also has a linear pattern. Neutral, texture, wool, and subtle pattern. What is not to love! This is another new rug so it comes in multiple sizes.
This is the James rug from Revival. I have the 9×12 in our living room.
Bedroom

I never expected to love a shag rug, but here we are. This wool shag in our master bedroom feels so incredibly luxurious underfoot. The detail along the edges with the lower pile height gives it a lot of interest and a laid-back cool vibe. Believe it or not this is a washable rug. I have the 9×12 so it’s not going to fit in a washing machine, but the smaller versions can! I can attest to how easily it spot cleans though. Our dog brought in one of his nasty, greasy cow bones and left a spot on the rug. It was completely gone with mild dish soap and warm water. I’m completely sold on wool fibers.
This is the Catlett from Revival. Since this is also a brand new rug it’s available in multiple and even custom sizes.
