I have to laugh at myself a bit because as I was typing out the title of this blog post I felt as though I title a lot of things “simple”. It’s my go-to. But really, I need things to be simple. Especially this time of the year when there just doesn’t seem to be enough time to get all the things done on the list. Simple is ok. Simple is good. Today I am joining the Holiday Get-Together Tour hosted by Bre of Rooms For Rent. If this is your first time visiting my blog, welcome! Here you will find inspiration on creating a beautiful home for less and attainable DIY projects. I hope you enjoy my Simple Christmas Tablescape and that you find some inspiration for your own holiday entertaining.

Inspiration
As I mentioned at the beginning, I wanted/needed a table that could be quickly pulled together. Fresh flowers and fresh garlands are my preference; however, you have to plan ahead and be on top of it so that an arrangement is fresh or garland doesn’t get crisp. I decided to remove that stress (yes, that stuff can stress me out when hosting Christmas dinner) and based this table’s look off of items that could be placed and ready to go days in advance. Simple faux greenery and moody candlelight are all I needed.
Greenery + Candles
As soon as I spotted this faux Cedar garland I was set. It looks so realistic. I just laid it down the center of the table and just like that the greenery/life portion of the centerpiece was taken care of. A second garland was draped over my mirror and these faux Magnolia stems added to vases on the piano. Both immediately made the dining room feel more festive.
To add some height to the table I brought out my thrifted brass candlesticks and added black candles. Darker, moodier candle colors are a great option in colder months. Then, I added in some votive candles for a lower level of candlelight. The brass candlesticks work well with the silver/pewter votives. Mix up your metals, it will keep it interesting.
Candle Tip: Make sure you are using fragrance free candles at the dinner table. You don’t want anything interfering with the delicious scent of your meal!
Table Linens
This runner is a DIY. Earlier in the year I was after a striped table runner and couldn’t find one in the price I wanted so I cut down this tablecloth into a runner size. Another option, if you are wanting the look of a runner, is to just fold up an existing tablecloth and iron the creases flat.
The grey stripes in this runner work really well with the grey pattern in my napkins. I think this may be one of the first years I will have a full matching set of napkins out at once! I usually have a mixture of napkins out on the table if I don’t have enough of one set. The easiest way to mix in coordinating napkins is by adding them in at the head chairs.
Dinnerware
Even if we are doing a simple Christmas tablescape, it is the fanciest meal of the year, so it’s time to pull out the china. Why have it if you’re not going to eat off of it, right? Funny story: my husband picked out our wedding china. He had a very strong opinion about what china he wanted and I really didn’t care all that much. Fifteen years later I still love it. He chose well.
DIY Napkin Rings
The napkins were finished off with my DIY tassel ornaments from a few years ago. These are quick and easy to make and would be a fun gift to send your guest home with at the end of dinner.

NewestI love the mordern rustic feel to this tablescape, simply gorgeous my friend.
Thank you so much, Norma! I just love that modern rustic combination.
Shelley, this is sooooo beautiful! I love the candlesticks so much!
My mom found those at an estate sale and sent me pictures. I couldn’t type “yes” back fast enough!
So gorgeous! I love the grand feel of your dining room, as well!
Thank you so much, Krista! The tall ceilings definitely help.
I like the Garland seven down the center. Those vintage camdle sticks are the best find ever. And I’m still shocked Mike picked the best China. That pattern is timeless.
You always find the best candlesticks! I know, I chuckle when I think about the china 😀 He was so adamant about it!
I love those beautiful candlesticks! I think it really plays up your high ceilings and really ties the room together! Love your whole tablescape!
Thanks, Alma! It does help fill in some of that space. It really isn’t that large of a room, the ceilings make it feel much bigger.
I couldn’t agree more about simple Shelley, and you do it so well! Love the garland (it looks so real!) and the little bells!
Happy holidays to you!

My mom had those little bells for years and I was over the moon excited when she gifted them to me 🙂
