slipcovered wingback

March 30, 2011

Remember my teaser from the other day?
Well, I finally lugged her down the stairs so I could get some pictures 🙂
Here she is!
 My slipcovered wingback!
Some close ups of the piping and arms.

My favorite part is still the skirt.
I used Miss Mustard Seed’s tutorial.  It was such a great tutorial, I highly recommend looking at it even if you’re doing something other than a wingback.  It really wasn’t difficult to do, and only took a few days of working during Izzy’s nap times to complete.
Breakdown of the project:
  • 9×12 painters drop cloth (8oz) – $20.00
  • cording to make piping – $8.00
  • chair – FREE!
$28.00!!!
Added bonus is that I have enough leftover materials to make a slipcover for an ottoman!
Now I just need to find her a home in my house.  Preferably without having to take ‘ol girl back up the stairs ðŸ˜€
Linking up to these fabulous parties!

Love this! It looks just awesome! I really want a wingback chair for my living room but all I've seen is ones with not so pretty upholstery or really $pricey$ ones. I try and keep it thrifty in the house so spending a bunch of mula on one chair is not something I want to do. And reupholstering something is a lil much for me right now. This is AWESOME! I'm going to keep my eye out for a wingback chair and then whip out my sewing machine!

Did you follow a pattern or did you make one?

Your chair looks great. I made a wingback cover this week and I am working on the 2nd of the pair this weekend using the same tutorial and it makes it so much easier. I have a question though, is the drop cloth stiffer to work with? I used cotton twill for mine and I am hesitant to use the drop cloth.

I am just amazed at anyone who can do this. You did a fabulous job. Gorgeous!! It seriously makes me want to search craigslist for a wingback right now. :0 Have a great weekend.

Shelley this is absolutely STUNNING. I have a wingback chair I got a month ago off the curbside and it's been sitting because I couldn't decide if I should slipcover it or reupholster it. I think you just convinced me to slipcover it, I think. LOL. I'd love to have you link this to my VIP party today! http://designergarden.blogspot.com/2011/03/vip-party-9.html

So, are you a natural or have you done this before? I've heard about MMS's tute. I'm going to have to take a look. I know it's not terribly hard once you get passed the procrastination. It's just a big puzzle. Although I have to admit, yours looks absolutely flawless. And the details! Fastastic job!
