There is even more Summer decor coming your way. Today I am participating in the Something Different Summer Home Tour! Why “something different”? The twenty-two homes participating in this tour are as varied as the women living in them. Each home has it’s own style and you are sure to find something different and unique about each one of them!
If you are new here, welcome, I am so happy to have you! You will find I have lot of DIY projects sprinkled throughout our home. My belief is that you can create a home that feels like a million bucks without spending it.

Summer Living Room
When prepping for summer decor, I knew I didn’t want to spend anything on season specific decor. I brought in a couple of new items, but they will definitely work year round. Overall the living room feels refreshed and ready for a laid back summer. Here are the small changes I made.
Coffee Table Decor
I’m not one to swap out my coffee table decor too much. Call me lazy, but when I find something I like, I usually keep it that way for a long time. So, I surprised myself when I ended up with this different grouping. The planter I found in the garden section of Homegoods. It was one of those items that you spot from across the store and gets you all excited. At $12 it came home with me. These Camomile flowers were picked up at the grocery store. The tiny white petals and cheery yellow cone just felt like summer to me. My little brass turtle migrated over from the secretary desk, and my mom’s clay dish that she made works perfectly with the blue pillows added in.
Mantle Decor
The black taper candles that were up for winter were swapped out for white to lighten the look. I moved my grey vase over from our bedroom and added a Philodendron clipping from outside.
Pillows
Definitely the biggest change in here came by adding in the blue pillows. I had some vintage fabric left over from another pillow I made for the playroom and knew it would be perfect for an extra long lumbar. That is such a fun, unexpected size on a couch. If you haven’t yet tried it out, I encourage you to! From more fabric already on had, I made the pillow you see below with the fringe on the side. The blue definitely added some life into this space, and with only having to spend less than $30 on pillow making supplies I feel great about it.
Summer Kitchen Nook
Our kitchen nook is getting plenty of summery vibes from our fiddle leaf fig that has been growing like crazy. A time is coming soon when I will have to figure out how to prune it.
Summer Dining Room
Pillows
For summer I swapped out black pillows for blue ones in the head chairs. And actually, I only had one small blue lumber pillow in here. Instead of making another, I got lazy and wrapped fabric around an old pillow. They don’t get sit in regularly so it’s not a big deal. A quick way to change out color if you don’t have time or energy!
Greens
More clipped Philodendron was added in here because I just love their big bold leaves. And not that they’re green, but my DIY pressed botanicals help add life to the space as well.
White Bowl
Added back to the space was my DIY bead edge bowl. I like how the texture mimics the vase I placed on our living room coffee table. Since this room has a lot of warm wood tones, I find that adding in a large white piece like this bowl helps lighten up the look.

So beautiful , Shelley. I like the restraint. The planter is really great. I just returned from HG, as I walked out with no purchase , I noticed the woman ahead of me was empty handed too. That never happens,
I do also love love love your coffee table,
There are visits to Homegoods where I want to take the entire store home with me, but more often than not I usually leave empty handed. I was so excited with I found that cute planter though! Thank you so much, Karen!
