Home Tours are always so fun to put together. If you have wandered over here from Peonies on Pleasant’s tour, welcome, I am so happy to have you! I realized it has been a while since our master bedroom has been shared on the blog so I thought this would be a great time to freshen it up for summer. I hope you enjoy this Summer Home Tour of our Master Bedroom.
People often feel like they have to go out and buy something new if they’re going to change up a space for the season. You absolutely don’t have to! I’ll share with you the quick changes I made just by swapping out items around the house. It’s free and fun to see items you already love in a new spot.
Bedroom Before
I still absolutely love this version with the darker pillows, but I wanted to try a different feel for summer.
Bedroom After
Textiles
The main change was just pillows. I simply swapped out our black pillows for the guest room’s white Euro shams. I also brought in this pretty vintage Aso Oke pillow from the living room. It instantly feels brighter in here.
Our white sheets, duvet, and Moroccan blanket all stayed the same. I like the all white feel during the hot summer months, but mostly I’m just still hard in love over the tassels on that blanket.
Art
The beach prints are perfect for summer, but are out year round. These were shots I took of the CA coast while my husband and I were on vacation. Take advantage of pretty scenery by taking photos so you can use it in your decor. Free art!
Nightstands
None of the furniture changed for this summer look but I wanted to mention the nightstands in case this is your first time seeing them. These mis-matched nightstands were born out of me not wanting to spend money on new ones and I’m not mad about it one bit.
The one on the right actually hides an ugly secret. My husband’s bachelor nightstand is underneath. I made a slipcover out of painter’s drop cloth to hide it and actually love the look. I made the top larger to match the size of the table on the other side by stapling the fabric to a piece of plywood and simply laying it on top. You can get more info on the slipcovered nightstand here.
The large table on the left is my parent’s old computer table from when I was a kid. I’ve always loved the shape of it, but it was a wreck when I got a hold of it. You can check out how I refinished it and gave it a bleached wood look using liming wax here.
Greenery
Without a doubt the easiest way to bring in Summer feels to your home is with seasonal greens or flowers. I have a large Philodendron in a planter on my porch that grows like crazy year round down here in Houston. Those leaves are my favorite to clip and use indoors because they are large, graphic, and last a long time in a vase with water. If you want to go the faux route look into a Palm leaf or Monstera for the same feel.
PRO TIP: When using faux make sure to cut the stem the correct length so you don’t see a bend in a clear vase (surefire giveaway it’s fake) and add some water so it looks real.
The other bits of greenery I added were the flowering bush clippings (free again) to one of the nightstands, and a small container of faux succulents to the other.
Beads
I love using these African bone and recycled glass beads year round, but they are especially good during the summer months. They’re fun to add to vases, lamps, or even just laying out flat.
Master Bath
Our master bath has a summery vibe to it year round now that I updated our old tubskirt with shiplap. I will sometimes have a small rug underneath our sinks during cooler months when the marble feels cold underfoot, but for the warmer months I prefer having nothing on the floor because I appreciate the cool feel.
The photo above our tub is another photo I took. I had it enlarged and printed online. For more info on how I changed the look of our builder grade bath, check out this post.
