My initial shock of wallpaper’s return was laid aside a couple of years ago when I realized it’s not at all the stuff that I grew up with. There are so many gorgeous wallpapers out there lately! Bold modern patterns, updated florals, textures. It’s all so good and there is a wallpaper for everyone. The best part is that you don’t have to use it just on your walls! If you want to get your toes wet and try it out, I have a fun little project for you.
I like the unexpected, and while wallpaper lined dresser drawers might not be unexpected, this is.
Isn’t it so fun!! I’ve lined the bottom of dresser drawers before with pretty paper, but as soon as they were filled with clothes or other items, you could no longer see the paper. Since this paper is so gorgeous I thought why not paper the whole drawer! Now when the drawer is filled up, you can still appreciate it. What an unexpected touch to an otherwise simple dresser.
I’ve teamed up with Milton & King, a boutique wallpaper and wall mural brand that has just landed in Austin, TX, to bring you this fun project. You guys, they have a HUGE variety of paper to choose from. Check out all of their Shibori wallpaper here. You will FLIP. I was all over the place coming up with ideas for every one that I fell in love with. Izzy and I finally settled on a couple of samples for her room and went from there.
I wish you could see this paper in person. The detail is amazing and the color is so vivid. The Garden Bloom wallpaper by Kingdom Home won my daughter over. Teal blue is her new favorite color. Put some flowers, birds, and butterflies on it and what more could a girl ask for?! You should check out the other color ways.
This was a simple project to pull together in an afternoon.
STEP ONE: Measure your drawer width and depth. Add two inches to the width so the paper goes up the sides of the drawer one inch on each side. TIP: If your drawer has a curved front like mine, you can make a template out of newspaper or wrapping paper. Cut out the bottom piece based off these measurements.
STEP TWO: Measure your drawers side panels from the bottom of the outside, up and over the lip, and down to where the panel meets the bottom of the drawer. Now measure the depth of the drawer. You will use one continuous piece of paper to wrap up the outside of the drawer panel and then down the inside of the panel. Cut out two side panel pieces, one for each side of the drawer, based on these measurements.
STEP THREE: Use a brush to brush on a thin layer of paste to the bottom on the drawer and a couple inches up the left and right sides. Place your paper, smooth flat and wipe away any excess paste with a wet sponge.
STEP FOUR: Brush a thin layer of paste onto the outside, inside, and lip of the side panel. Place your paper starting at the bottom of the outside. Wrap up, over and then down to meet the paper on the bottom of the drawer. Smooth flat and wipe away any excess paste with a wet sponge. Repeat for the other side panel.
STEP FIVE: Let the paper dry before placing it back into the dresser to avoid any tears.
SHORTCUT: Like the look but don’t want to mess with wallpaper paste? Use double sided tape to attach the paper to the bottom of the drawer. Instead of using one continuous piece of paper to cover the side panel, cut two pieces leaving the top lip uncovered, and use more double sided tape to attach the paper to the inside and outside of the panel. Repeat on the other side.

Shelley!!! Ahhhh I love this so much!!!! I painted Hannah's night table drawer sides hot pink and that is fun, but this is a whole other level of awesomeness. The colors are so pretty in Izzy's room. That paper is SO pretty!! I can't wait to see their other papers. Thanks for sharing.
It looks gorgeous. How do you protect the wear and tear on the paper wirh drawers being opened and closed .
Shelley
Thank you, Karen! Actually, I didn’t do anything to protect it and haven’t had any issues with it wearing or tearing the paper. There are even a few areas that rub when the drawers open and close, but so far so good! If you want to add protection, I would suggest adding a couple coats of Mod Podge.
Meet Shelley
Hi, I’m Shelley! My belief is that with a little creativity and elbow grease, you can make your home look like a million bucks without spending it.
I finally decided to introduce some cubed food so she could feed herself since she LOVES, LOVES feeding herself those little Gerber puffs. So, I go to the store and pick out the most perfect avocado for her to try, knowing she’s going to love it just as much as mommy does. I mean, who…
This little (although not so little anymore) thing just turned 6 on Friday! I can barely believe it! We’re having her birthday party this weekend. You can check out some of the planning on Instagram. Until then, here’s this years’ birthday interview! 1. Favorite color? Pink (shocking) 2. Favorite toy? Giraffe 3. Favorite fruit? Pineapple 4. Favorite TV show? …
I never know what the correct term is for the small dining space off of our kitchen. Kitchen nook, breakfast nook, breakfast room?? Whatever you call it, I randomly decided to get new chairs for ours. While I still love the look of a wishbone chair I was tired of maneuvering around the large backs…
Before Halloween got away from us, I wanted to share this year’s Fall and Halloween decor with you. It usually takes me a while to lean into this time of the year with decorations since we’re still sweating and swimming down here in Houston. But once I do make the switch inside, it gets me…
I’m going to have to throw out a major MOM FAIL flag. Sam’s birthday was in November, and I have never posted about it. With his birthday being between Thanksgiving when we’re traveling and Christmas, more travel, it is always a challenge. I royally messed it up this time when I went over to decorate…
Can I sound like our mothers for a bit??? Ok, good! Five years ago today I was in the hospital bringing this sweet little girl into the world. She was more amazing than I could have ever imagined, and she still blows me away every. single. day. Izzy has the best laugh, the best don’t-make-a-lick-of-sense…
