I know everyone is already in Christmas mode, but I wanted to share with you guys the kids’ Halloween costumes from this year!  If you feel so inclined, you can pin for next year.  Every year I make the kids’ costumes.  Every year I swear it will be my last.  But, I have fond memories of my mom killing it in the costume department for my sister and I as kids, and I want to keep it up for mine.

We didn’t intend to, but ended up with a bit of a super hero theme.  Izzy went as Justice League’s Hawkgirl and Sam as PJ Masks’ Catboy.  They are both obsessed.

These wings.  They were a DIY (let me know if you want to see how they were made) that turned out much better and much BIGGER than I anticipated.  I mean, she could have taken flight if she got running fast enough 😀  They totally made her costume and were worth every minute.  The mask was a DIY using plain craft felt.  Her “boots” were red soccer socks placed over flats with yellow duct tape down the front.  Her mace was made out of an unused towel bar (cut down) that was stuck into a paper mache Christmas ornament.  The spikes were made out of clay and super glued into place.  Then everything was spray painted silver.

Sam cracks me up.  I didn’t even have to ask him to pose.  He is all about Catboy and has asked to be him for over a year.  And for that one night, he became Catboy.  Like, he didn’t respond to Sam, only Catboy.  His best friend went as Owlet and all night it was, “Come on Owlet, let’s go!”  “Ok, Catboy!”.  Cutest darn thing you ever did see.

I made his costume with a plain blue hooded pajama I found online at Footed Pajamas and light blue felt.  Let me tell ya, I thought this was going to be my easy costume.  I was wrong.  To attach the felt to his PJ’s I first tried fabric glue, but that didn’t work.  Iron on adhesive, didn’t work.  I finally went to the ‘ol stand by, hot glue.  Should have done that in the beginning.  His tale was made out of felt and stuffing with part of a wire hanger inside to make it bend.  I purchased his mask on Etsy here for $9.00.  She now sells a mask and tail set.  Best deal around.

This was a fun Halloween this year.  It was the first year that Sam really knew what was going on and wasn’t timid about going up to people’s houses.  I just love watching them with all of their friends running around the neighborhood!  Brings back so many happy memories of when I was little.  I’m thinking back on all of my costumes as a kid.  Rainbow Brite, a unicorn, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, a princess.  I should dig up some funny pics for ya.
