Inspiration
My mom had this small vintage crock that I remember loving even as a child. She gifted it to me several months ago and I was over the moon. A few weeks later while organizing my father-in-law’s garage I came across the larger crock. Now my mom’s crock has a big brother! Immediately I knew I wanted to use them as a jumping off for a Fall table. Starting with those vintage crocks I gathered other elements to pull together a simple early Fall look.
Greenery
My next decision was what to fill those pretty crocks with. Flowers would always work, but I wanted to try something a little different. Part of our live oak was growing into the fence on the side of the house and needed to be trimmed back so I brought in some of those clippings. I also had these teeny tiny faint purple flowers that had dried out a long time ago. I have no clue what they are called, but I liked the dried look for Fall. The nice thing about these two options is that they will last far longer than fresh flowers.
I’m going to consider the apples greenery as well. I wanted to add a little more color to the table and I had some Granny Smith apples on hand. They really were the perfect touch by adding more life and color to the table, and also nodded to Fall as I always think of apple pies and cobblers at this time of the year. Touches like this reinforce the casual early Fall tablescape look as opposed to pumpkins which are more associate with late Fall or Thanksgiving looks.
Table linens
I purchased this smaller block printed tablecloth from McGee & Co. early in the year. Unfortunately it’s no longer available, but I’ve linked to similar options at the end of the post. It’s a perfect size for our smaller round table in the kitchen, but too small to completely cover our dining table. The tones and print are perfect so I wanted to make it work for this table. By draping a smaller tablecloth at an angle you get the benefit of the added texture and it gives the table a relaxed casual feel.
The napkins have a pretty fringe detail along the edge also makes things feel more relaxed. I only have four of those fringe napkins so I added them to the side settings and did different napkins with a similar feel at the head chairs. This is a great way to get by when you don’t have a large enough set of napkins.
Dinnerware
You can never go wrong with classic white plates. They will serve you well for years, they go with everything, and are a great base to layer upon for a mix and match look. You can easily switch up your look by adding a fun salad plate or bowl without having to invest in full up completely matching sets. For this look I added these imperfect glazed bowls to my everyday white plates. The handmade look is beautiful, and at $4.99 a piece they’re a great price.

NewestShelley,
Love your crocks! The large one, even though it has some staining, is worth around $150.00-$200.00, unless it is cracked. The small bee sting one is worth $125.00-$150.00, unless it is cracked. You may know, but these are salt glazed crocks. This style and type is more expensive than the other crocks you see around. Don’t ever put them outside, they will crack in cold weather.
Thank you so much for the info, I had no idea what type they were or what they were called!! Luckily there are no cracks that I know of. And so good to know about putting them outside. My father-in-law used to keep the large on in his garage. I’m surprised it’s not cracked that I can see!
this is so lovely, shelley! love all the simple natural elements and they work beautifully in your space.
Thank you, Cassie! This was a fun one to put together. Everything just kind of fell into place!
Shelley, love your tablescape. The vintage crocks are the perfect touch in here.
Thank you so much, Alma! I’m so excited about those crocks!
The quiet, raw simplicity of your tablescape is beautiful. Your combination of natural linens, crocks and simple dinnerware touched with nature is so special. Those apples just sing on your table! Thanks for sharing your creativity!
Thank you so very much for your kind comment, Judy! I hope you have a great day!
Love how you put this together, Shelley!
