I’ve been wanting to repaint our main floor and the stairway for a while now. I’ve been putting it off because as much as I like painting, I just don’t wanna!!!
But, the time has come to **** or get off the pot.
Now I just need narrow it down to a few so I can test the actual color on the wall. Easier said than done.
Always one to give her opinion, Izzy has a few selections she’d like tested out as well.
I’ll take it under consideration 😉
Do you guys have a favorite gray? Do tell!

Newestokay so i love classic gray by benjamin moore. Its super neutral almost a creamy color. i also really like antique sterling by glidden. gray is so hard bc it can turn blue or taupe in a blink.
Anew Gray by Sherwin Williams is my fave!!
Emily Henderson just had a post about this just a few weeks back and gave several great gray options. Also, I do agree with Julia on the classic gray. Always a good choice.

That Emily Henderson post was good that Elizabeth mentioned. I have Benjamin Moore Gray Owl and I like it, although, it sometimes seems a bit on the blue side rather than a true gray. But I know Ange from the Blooming Hydrangea has Gray Owl and in her home it looks gray with no blue undertones. Gray is tricky to get just right!
We l-o-v-e Olympia Gray Ghost. We used it in the hall, G's room, and the bath. Goes with every-thing!
your current wall colour appears to be a 'warm' grey, while those chips you have taped up are all 'cold' colours. Just something to think about. 🙂
Zeppelin by ICI is the PERFECT gray. It is perfect in any light, is soft and a true gray! You'll love!

Good luck picking…..I have used Dolphin Fin but sometimes it comes off too blue….I just saw a color over at Delightful Design and it seemed gray…go check it out can't remember the name..Cassie has used a darker gray called zinc and I love it!!
The perfect gray depends on your house. I painted 4 samples of gray that looked great in the store but turned out really purplish in the house. So I tried 3 more. I was using the same color in several rooms and every color look different in each room. I wanted a really steely gray color-not a "greige." ("Revere Pewter" was one I saw on Pinterest that everyone loved but it didn't look good at all!) But none of them looked good. So in the end "Ozark Shadows" by BM ended up looking the best in my house. It's more beige than I intended but I'm in love with it! I'd suggest finding a few grays that each have a different undertone (grays have purple, blue, green, and brown undertones) and painting them on the different walls of the room you're wanting to paint. My husband had a heart attack when painted 7 samples of paint on 5 different walls in the house, but he later saw the genuis of my ways. 🙂 Good luck!
ICI Newcastle Gray, mixed at 50%! It is the perfect gray, IMO. At night, it almost looks blue. I LOVE IT! 🙂
We just painted Sharkey Gray by Martha Stewart in our kitchen, and I really love it! It does give a hint of blue when it's darker inside, but overall I am really happy with it! We have Sherwin Williams Flagstone in our living/dining area. It's so funny because in the dining with our white stencil pattern over it, it looks completely gray, and living room looks more blue. Good luck, can't wait to see!
Wow, this depends so much on the undertones (green, blue, purple, red), but also on the actual room. I've had grays look awesome in the store and outside, but not in the space. It's such a tough color, but when you get it right, it's amazing! I've had luck with Valspar's Woodlawn Colonial gray. I've heard a lot about Gray Owl by Ben Moore. Try getting a fan deck to bring home so you can see that in the home and have all the colors at once. I've also just mixed colors together – I tend to like more of a greige with slight brown undertones than a silver with blue undertones as I always end up seeing it as blue in the end… Can't wait to hear what you decide.
I think the grey will look terrific. I'm a huge fan of that smokey grey (third from the bottom). Happy painting!!
