Oh hey there!! Didn’t mean for it to be this long between posts. Summer was just doing it’s thing! I was feeling crafty the other day and finally made the napkin rings I had in the back of my mind for way too long. Ceramic pieces are just so beautiful to me. Their handmade, imperfect look (what I’m drawn to about them) makes them a great option to create a look-a-like piece. You will not believe what I used to give these DIY ceramic napkin rings their convincing speckled appearance. Pepper!! My daughter saw them and said they looked like something from Anthropologie. Can’t get a better compliment! It’s such a fun and quick project that you can do with minimal supplies, I hope you’ll save this and give it a try.

What You’ll Need
- Oven-bake clay – I used Sculpey
- Glaze- I used Sculpey Gloss Glaze
- Coffee
- Cracked pepper
- Oven
- Rolling pin
- Toilet paper core
- Paint brushes
Step One
Roll clay into even balls. One ball for each napkin ring you want. With each ball, roll out into a cylinder shape with your hands. Now use a rolling pin to start flattening and stretching the shape. You’ll want the clay to be 1/4th inch thick.

Step Two
Sprinkle pepper onto the top of the clay (I used the finest ground setting). Lightly roll the pepper into the clay. Flip the clay over and repeat on the other side. Using a toilet paper core as your form, wrap the clay loosely around the core and overlap the edges. Gently slide the clay off the core.

Step Three
Play the clay on its side in an oven safe ceramic or glass pan. Bake according to your clay’s instructions. Mine was 275 degrees for 15 minutes. Let cool completely.

Step Four
I wanted my napkin rings to be slightly darker so I used what I had on hand, leftover coffee. Brush this on the inside and outside of your napkin ring and let dry. To seal and give your napkin rings that glazed ceramic look, apply two coats of the gloss glaze allowing it to fully dry between coats.

I can’t wait to use them when I create a Thanksgiving table setting this Fall. But of course I think they’re perfect for any table setting any time of the year. What do you think? Are you going to give these DIY ceramic napkin rings a try?
